HELEN WONG, MANAGING DIRECTOR

As founder and managing director of leading and long-established Australian-based travel wholesaler, Helen Wong’s Tours, Helen has used her knowledge in marketing overseas interests under the name of World Trade Travel. The marketing company was founded in 1991 and today represents the Macau Government Tourist Office, Shanghai Tourism and Henan Province in China. Helen is now looking to broaden the company by encompassing associations and organisations from around the globe as well as domestically. In 1993, Helen tailored an exclusive itinerary for former Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitlam and his wife Margaret, ultimately escorting the couple on a study program in a People’s Republic previously veiled by mystery and intrigue. For two consecutive years her Sydney-based agency was named among Australia’s top 100 fastest-growing private companies by PriceWaterhouseCoopers and Business Review Weekly. In 1996, Helen was further rewarded for her efforts by reaching the finals of the coveted Telstra-sponsored Businesswoman of the Year. The accolades continued when Helen’s company successively bid to host the 25th and 32nd annual general meeting of the prestigious Australian Society of Travel Writers (ASTW) in Shanghai. Helen has also held a position on the Tourism NSW Board and was voted Communicator of the Year by members of the ASTW. She was later honoured with the prized Order of the Compass in recognition of her contribution to the ASTW.
